The Website
PART 1: WHY?
So I’ve been a little quiet of late, well quieter than I usually am. For some reason four weeks ago I decided to sort out the mess that were my websites and blogs. I think it was the notification mails from Nominet telling me that a bunch of my domains were to expire in 7-10 days (which they have). Since then I’ve been having a mass re-organisation and tidy-up of my million and one sites. And this after my shift to a new service (at least new to me) in the form of Amplify – a brilliant social network for sharing and posting to others. Anyway…
Why a new beginning?
Well I’ve always wanted to have the facility to blog when I wanted, in the way I wanted, with as little an effort as possible. I’ve gone through many blogging services – Serendipity and WordPress being the two main ones – but it always ended up with problems and thus being put off the whole maintaining of a blog or site. I could never get my WordPress blogs to do exactly what I wanted, it felt like it was always being updated (the plugin updates drove me mad for one) and it broke a few things. The last break being the last straw and basically put my photography site out of action for good during an unsuccessful swap from MySQL 4 to MySQL 5 (not really WordPress’ fault and more down to my provider but I had had enough at this point and left it broken for several weeks). That is until a few weeks ago.
I wanted something simple to maintain once up and running with a simple structure. In the past I was either too ambition, wanted to do too much or the idea was just too complex and so after I came up against too many brick walls I eventually gave up and stuck to social networks like, FriendFeed (which turned out to be a wonderful move into my first proper experience of an online community).
This new beginning needed to be less complex; for one I needed to cut down the websites. With that in mind the names E-lusion and Squashy/Squashed Frog have been ditched, my E-lusion Ltd company (now closed anyway as I’ve not been contracting for nearly a year now) and the site have been closed and everything has been (or will be) replaced by one single name: koltregaskes.com (no I didn’t take long to think up the address
). The solution? Read on over the next couple of weeks during which I’ll post the following parts to the puzzle:
Basically this will be me thinking out loud, me putting everything down for reference and me going through the process and hopefully getting feedback from anyone who is reading this – so apologises for the boringness of these articles. I’m using this writing process to organisation myself and formulate a plan for the web site(s) and photography as well as testing a few things out (such as posting directly to each service, auto-posting from one point and screenshot storage). As most of this is already written I can certainly say putting it all down in writing has helped a lot. Feel free to chip in any time as I really need your help.
PART 2: WHAT I’VE DONE
I gave a quick overview of why I’m starting a fresh in part one. Now onto what I’ve done so far…
What I’ve Done
Some things are still up in air, for example I’ve got multiple Posterous, WordPress.com,Blogger and Tumblr pages (one for photography and one for everything else – do I really need them?) but what I’ve done so far is tidy up a ton of my existing sites – well I have been abusing a few of them way too much for way too long and it’s about time I treated them nicely for once.
So:
- The self-hosted WordPress.org site, squashyfrog.com, is no more, neither are e-lusion.co.uk and e-lusionltd.com – they all redirect to koltregaskes.com.
- koltregaskes.com has been swapped from jumping to squashyfrog.com to now pointing to my Gravatar page (a temporary measure – more on this later). So it now has its own page and purpose. The plan is for the koltregaskes.com to come to the forefront and literally everything will point to it or go through it in some form (including plenty new subdomains).
- koltregaskesphotography.com has been purchased and currently points to myFlickr slideshow. The plan here is to give the photography (including the photography blog) it’s own identity. As with everything though this will point to the koltregaskes.com at photography.koltregaskes.com. My long term goal on this is to get a proper photography site up and running, at least a gallery or self-hosted slideshow. This potentially could be the only thing that will be self-hosted
- My blog is not on Amplify. Amplify isn’t quite ready for it but I’ve already made the change in the hope some of my wanted features will arrive at some point.
- My photography blog has been separated as mentioned above and like my main blog is currently on Amplify. Thankfully it comes under the same account as my main Amplify page so posting and switching to it is fairly painless.
- My current webspace has been wiped clean. I have virtually nothing stored at the moment and undecided whether I will ever need my own space (at least paid space).
- I’ve created a new Facebook Page for my photography. This should get a lot more use than my previous personal FB Page and the Squashy Frog one – both of which have been deleted.
- My WordPress.com site (which was being fed my tweets for months via Ping.fm) is now clean. I can’t see a way to import into it so it’s going to be left as is for the moment too (you might notice, like you might notice with a few of my sites, that the background is not tiling properly – it’s on my to-do list, promise).
- My Tumblr blog has been wiped of all microblogs back to the end of March. The ‘mass editor‘ is a dream to use! Not only is it pretty but it’s bloody useful when editing posts in bulk. The only thing I’d like to see is the ability to shift-select posts (I might then be tempted to wipe out all status updates going back as far as 2009!).
- As for Posterous, this post sums up the changes. The move is now complete (thought still waiting for Posterous to delete the two unneeded blogs) so I just have the main blog and the photography blog (which has some posts from it’s Squashy Frog days) and I’ve successful used their new importer to import some of myBlogger content). Speaking of which…
- My never-really-used-ever Blogger site has had it’s theme switched and content tidied up (more pesky microblogs again!)
And that’s right, no more self-hosted WordPress blog. It’s so-long to irritating coding issues and SQL database problems. No more fiddling with third party widgets or not-quite-what-you-want plugins. And hello to clean, tidy and maintained–by-some-other-bloke website. Amplify has really jumped the queue here, it’s a brilliant service.
I was introduced to Amplify by Flavio only a couple of months ago and was an instant hit. It’s a social service and blogging platform rolled into one. The service is run onWordPress MU and so is a system I’m very used to. There is only a basic admin section (which I sure will grow in time) but does allow you to customise the design, adjust your sidebar and add as well as customise widgets (in much the same way of WordPress). But it’s all wrapped into a community so anything you post or share is put into your followers ‘newsfeed’ and in turn if they recommend your post it goes to their follower’s ‘newsfeed’ and so on. The community up there with FriendFeed at the moment but it’s not likeCliqset either (which for all it’s great features just doesn’t have an active community right now – an utter shame and you lot need to rectify that
).
Amplify is ideal. A no hassle WordPress-powered social community. Perfect. Well nearly and I’ll let my mass lists of suggestions here explain how the service could be improved. Most are minor issues, the major problems would be groups need a lot of work as well as better auto-posting options. And I wouldn’t say it’s fully tailored to being a blog either – the likes of Svartling have decided to make the switch and set Amplify as their blog – but it’s certainly heading that direction and so I’ve decided to switch Amplify as my blog too. Welcome blog.koltregaskes.com
That kinda gives you the headlines.
PART 3: WHAT I’VE TO DO
I went through what I’ve already done to date in part two. Now onto what’s ahead…
I’ve broken what I want to do into four parts:
Motivation – I need some and I need to not be so ambition with my ideas and kill my motivation. Previously attempts to start up my site have failed because it was too much work to set up and then too much work to maintain.
Simplicity – My sites need to be simple to maintain and simple to set-up. I don’t have the time to work on my sites a lot, and creating and posting articles needs to be quick and easy.
Organisation – A plan. The sites need planning, even if something simple. Previously attempts have been wayward and disorganised.
Targets – To set goals for my sites, which could be as simple as creating regular posts such as a music post each week where I share my newly discovered favourite music.
Basically my sites need to be incorporated into what I normally do, such as: search for new music, watch movies, read tech news and listen to podcasts. If I create blog posts around these then it’s not going to take too much out of my normal routine and I’ll be more motivated to post to my blogs.
PART 4: WEB SITE
I’ll go into detail on what graphics I’d like and what are the plans for the website…
Graphics
Well I have loads of ideas (as always) so it’s all down to execution. I don’t need a great deal of graphics:
- Character
- Text and logo
- Character varieties – to have different style of the character; dress style, pose, different t-shirts for the different social services the avatar appears on
- Background
- Service icons
In part one I mentioned that some of my domain names expired recently. These were bought with a specific idea in mind. I wanted a character (a kinda online ‘identity’) and to use the domains are separate sites/blogs for my different interests all themed around this ‘character’. Sadly it was too complicated and the ‘character’ never materialised. This time round I don’t think it’s hugely important but I sent out a call on FriendFeed for help in creating a logo here.
I’m hoping the avatar swap won’t be too painful. As mentioned here with Kim Landwehr I’m hoping Gravatar will come to the rescue in a lot of cases.
For the background I currently use my Cornfield image on a lot of sites, including my blog. It’s not ideal though, it’s not tilable and it’s a little distracting for a background. So I would need to select another one of my photos or create something specific for a background.
And as for service icons, I’m basically after social media icons, perhaps customised to fit in with the style of my sites or with the character mentioned above.
Website Ideas
Features:
Be sure to expect my regularly shares and posts, such as Question of the Day via Plinky. I’m not about to stop all this of course. But I would say that I won’t be sharing in quite the same amount. This will come from yet another Google Reader re-org this weekend where I’ll be cutting the feeds once more. This should give me more time to do my own stuff:
- Movies: I tend to watch a lot of rentals every month. What I would like to do is share my mini reviews of them in a monthly blog post
- Music: Two things I’d like to do here, as a big music fan and listener I tend to find a ton of new music each week. I’d like to share my favourites as well as my favourite newly discovered band/musician each week/month.
- Gaming: As for movies I rent a few Xbox and PS3 games each month. I also download a few XBLA trial games for the Xbox 360 and would to share my thoughts of them on a regular basis.
- Photography: I’m planning to re-edit my main portfolio photos and give them a proper blog post each [EDIT: you'll now find there here]. I then want to post a new photo at least every month, if not every week. I have many unprocessed photos to do and want to get back out there taking new shots as well so putting down a target of one new photo each week should motivate me. I’d also like to post my favourite Flickr faves of the week or month as well as my favourite photographer
Home Page:
Currently my home page: koltregaskes.com points to my Flickr slideshow [EDIT: now points to my Gravatar page]. What I’m really after is a one page “profile” page. A page that has links to my main sites and links to my main social sites. That’s really it. I’m not wanting anything special. I’d prefer it to be as basic as possible. I’ve tested and setup a few pages on third-party sites including card.ly, chi.mp and flavors.me. The latter is my favourite of the three but I don’t really want my stream on that site. I simply want the buttons. Luckily I stumbled back into Gravatar last weekend and was pleasantly surprised to find it does almost exactly what I want (well apart from this, this and this). Have a look here.
I have my links (be it at the bottom), I’ve got most of my main social sites (a few missing or wrong), I have my contacts details at the top and as a bonus I’ve been able to upload my photos (see next to my avatar – try scrolling down or clicking on the current big pic to see the next one). But is this where I should be pointing mykoltregaskes.com domain name to? The issues mentioned above I putting me off right now but I’d be content with Gravatar as my profile/home page.
Contact:
Nothing fancy here. Just a page to let people contact me. The Google Profile is a good page for this. I have no need to publish my email address as there is a handy button on the Google page.
Links:
A page to show my favourite sites as well as my own
About:
Simply need to update my existing one and fix my detailed version.
PART 5: SOCIAL SERVICES
How will I organise the social networking side of things?
Like sites I have many social spaces too. As mentioned here I narrowed my “main” services down to a few I regularly use:
- Amplify – as discussed this will be where my blog or blogs will reside [EDIT: Amplify decided to remove it's blogging feature so it won't be my "home"]
- Cliqset – my aggregator for the moment. There is virtual no community to speak of and it’s a shame as I could quite easily use this regularly and better’s FriendFeed in several areas and the commenting syncing between Twitter and Google Buzz is a major feature and allows you to use Cliqset as a Buzz or Twitter client. As always there are many improvements and I noted all of the ones I could think of here with responses from Darren Bounds, one of the developers [EDIT: Cliqset has now closed down
] - Digg – this became relevant again with the new version. I can’t see myself hanging out there but the ‘My Feed’ stream basically turns Digg into a news reader (so long as you follow the right people) and so I will be using it like Google Reader and digging any interesting posts each day
- Facebook – well you can’t live without nowadays, right?
Seriously though, I’m not it’s biggest fan, from from it. But it has it’s uses and I love the ‘like’ button. I had a couple of Pages on FB but I dumped both and created a new one from scratch. It will be for my photography page and I hope to frequent there a load more than I did at the other two. You’ll find the new Page at facebook.com/koltregaskesphotography - Flickr – an obvious choice of course. It’s were my portfolio is being built, a slideshow of one of my sets is currently my photography home page too. And RSS Graffiti is a life-saver if you need to import your feeds into FB.
- FriendFeed – my “home” for several years now. It was the first online community I got really involved with and made many news friends and contacts through the service. To call it dead is idiotic. It’s alive and well. Sure, they’ll be no development on it but services like Google Notebook are still there idle too and that, along with FF, are one of several services I use a lot! – where do you think I’m typing this post?
. The question of whether Facebook will close it are not really my concern. If they do, fine but there’s no word of this so it’s in use and many, many others are still there. The best community on any service by none - Google/Buzz / Google Reader – Buzz is potentially my new home (unless Cliqset get themselves sorted). It has it pitfalls but the community is growing, I only wish there was a bit more variety in the threads – it’s a tad tech-heavy at the moment. Reader needs a whole post to itself to explain how I use it but it’s obviously where I find all the posts I share. Lazyfeed had a little run on my homepages but I’ve plumped for my old favourite. As a digest you might like to follow some of my topics via PostRank [EDIT: Google Buzz is pretty much redundant since the introduction of Google+]
- Last.fm – simply because I listen to a lot of music and Pandora doesn’t work outside the US (miss it a lot!
) - Twitter – yeah it’s a so-called broadcasting service now but I can’t deny I use it a lot and thankful of Twitter Lists which allows me to follow a manageable amount of people. My current favourite client is TweetDeck; both on my Windows and Android platforms
- vi.sualize.us – I bookmark a lot of images, a lot! Not as much as previously but it certainly warrants an inclusion of a image bookmarking service. Don’t expect just photography either. I’m a huge fan of CG and art in general so there is a right mixture being posted there
- YouTube – I’m not a big sharer of videos but I most definitely thumbs up a ton
There are three that are on the outskirts, these are foursquare (I don’t move around enough to have a great use for this), LinkedIn (rarely use it) and StumbleUpon (a once over-used service of mine now doesn’t come out of its box). There are three glaring topics missing too: games, movies and photography, and I’ve yet to find online communities in these areas that gets my attention any more than occasionally. The search continues – feel free to recommend any too.
PART 6: PHOTOGRAPHY
It might have escaped you but you might know I’m a bit fan of photography and taking pictures. I’ve been quite of late on this front and I really need to get back on that.
Where’s my photography?
Ah-ha, well it’s still on Flickr and you’ll still find my portfolio photos here. What I’ve done in-between now and sorting out a basic gallery is point koltregaskesphotography.com to my slideshow. I’m actually pretty happy with this as the Flickr app does a very decent job. I rather it be under my own URL but hey-ho beggars can’t be choosers.
I’ll continue to upload my photography to my Flickr page. I see no other photo-sharing service comes close to Flickr [EDIT: 500px might do in the future] so I’ll carry on paying for the reasonable priced subscription (got over a year on the current subscription anyway – I’ll review it same time next year [EDIT: just renewed for another 2 years August 2011]) and uploading my pics there. The new photo page is very good anyway so your photos are being display nicely.
Blog
The idea is to keep all photography separate from the rest. So one blog for photography and one blog for everything else. But in an effort for simplicity is this necessary? I’m not sure which way to go at the moment but currently the photography blog is separate and sits here.
Prints
My prints page is an issue. I’ve had my photography on deviantART for a few years but sold nothing. It’s an awful interface to work with and perhaps I could do more to improve my pages but it’s hard work on Da. With this and the thought that perhaps my photography is not suited to Da I’ve started to look elsewhere. RedBubble has been on my thoughts for a while so I’ve set-up an account a couple of weeks ago and uploaded my first photo here. It’sfar easier than deviantART. Updating descriptions is a breeze. Uploading images is simple. Presentation of your photography is tidier and it generally seems a lot more organised. So the idea is to upload a photo a week. This will be linked with a post a week on that particularly photo where I’ll go into a little bit of detail on the image.
There’s a bit of work before I start this though As you’ll see from my slideshow set here the Squashy Frog name is still on the borders. I’m not too keen on the borders and title but would like my new web address (and name) added to the bottom of each picture. This means a re-edit of all my photos and re-uploading them to Da, Flickr and adding them to RedBubble. I’ve installed Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended trial today (11/09/2010) and that’s given me 30 days use and 30 days to get all these photos tided up. The clock is ticking. ![]()
New photos
Yes it’s been a long, long time since I’ve uploaded new material and even long since I’ve taken new shots. I should be back on the case soon. I have 100s of unprocessed photos, so I’ll start by going through those to see exactly what I have. I was actually quite organised and put all the better images to one side for later. I think, though, even that was a high amount so I’ll have to be picky. Then I must dust off the Nikon D300 and get out and about again. It’s a shame I’ve missed the Summer but hopefully Winter will bring some interesting scenery, particularly if we get some snow.
PART 7: TEACH & ADMIN
Here comes the boring stuff…
Admin
I’ve set-up customised bit.ly links and added all possible feeds from my blogs to Feedburner (Blogger, Posterous, Tumblr, etc.) and I’ve set-up Google Analytics for as many services that support it (Picasa, Cliqset and Posterous, etc.).
I’ve also sorted out small things like organise my Chrome bookmarks to import them into Google Bookmarks, share my sites to a list + have uploaded important files to Google Docs + added and organise my notes to Google Notebook and basically move into the cloud [EDIT: I now use Google Docs only]
Subdomains
As mentioned with my chat with April Russo here I’ve created a whole bunch of subdomains under the top levelkoltregaskes.com name. So think of a social site I’m on then add .koltregaskes.com, plonk that into.your browser’s address bar and you’ll probably find yourself being redirected to my page on that service. For example:
Amplify: http://amplify.koltregaskes.com/
Cliqset: http://cliqset.koltregaskes.com/
Facebook: http://facebook.koltregaskes.com/
Flickr: http://flickr.koltregaskes.com/
FriendFeed: http://friendfeed.koltregaskes.com/
Google Buzz: http://gbuzz.koltregaskes.com/
Tumblr: http://tumblr.koltregaskes.com/
vi.sualize.us: http://visualizeus.koltregaskes.com
This actually makes things a lot easier as Google Chrome’s history has remembered all these so if I ever want to go to one of these pages I can start typing the service name and my .koltregaskes.com is auto-suggested very quickly.
Tracking responses
So I’ve got posting sorted but what about reading? Big problem this. Only Postling and Cliqset currently have features that allow you to collectively read replies to your posts from your multiple social sites. Postling supports a few more services than Cliqset but neither cover enough. Cliqset if my favourite UI though and currently supports Twitter and Google Buzz. So for example I can post a Buzz post via Amplify auto-post, I can then head over to my Cliqset page and not only read all comments on that post but also respond. The comments are synced both ways so you can basically use Cliqset as a Google Buzz client. If one service supported all the services I post to (Pip.io also cited that were working on something like this) then I could read and response from one place. How simple would life be then?
Sadly this is not and so tracking comments on the various services currently means checking some services every day and email notifications from other services. It’s not ideal but engagement is huge on mine posts so it’s fairly painless.
PART 8: QUESTIONS
So I’ve got a few questions you guys might be able to help me with:
- Should I import my vi.sualize.us bookmarks into Facebook Pages (see post here)? I’m favouring not as, although they are photos, they are also CG art and all sorts of other images + people reading the Facebook Page might think all these images are mine.
- How should I share my copyrighted photography on Facebook? I’m a little nervous to upload them directly so was wondering if there is an app that can help? I’ve yet to find a decent Flickr app.
- Can anyone recommend a free online slideshow service? Cooliris was suggested to me and I’ve since created a ‘wall’ which you can find out more here. But both this and Flickr’s slideshow have their name all over it and I think it would be best if this was self-hosted.
- Can anyone recommend a free online gallery (see post here)? I don’t really want to install WordPress and one of their galleries. As mentioned above that would mean maintaining WordPress and all that comes with it. But I would like this self-hosted like my slideshow.
- What apps do you write your blog posts with? I’m currently writing this inside Google Notebook and it’s pretty up until when I need to start adding screenshots and images (I’m about to move the whole thing into Google Docs and see how I get on). I like Google Notebook as it regularly auto-saves what I’m doing and it’s online and so can access it from anywhere I like. Amplify doesn’t seem to auto-save and it’s not clear how you can save posts as drafts. And I’ve tried apps like Windows Live Writer and never really got on with them. I’m quite content with Google Notebook but all ears for any recommendations.
- Do I need my own webspace? I currently host my space (and my domains) with 1&1 but all my domain names are now on redirect duty and nothing is using the webspace. I’ve even deleted everything on the space so can you think of a reason to keep it?
- Auto-posting to Tumblr, WordPress.com, Blogger Posterous – a good thing? For the moment I’m auto-posting to all these from Amplify. I don’t see much of a problem as I rather the services get used but I’ll be monitoring engagement to see if it really is worth it. Are there any negative impacts on auto-posting like this? [EDIT: I've stopped using Amplify and now manually post/write with WordPress. I think grab a bit.ly link and share to Google+ and also Ping.fm (which posts to Twitter, Google Buzz and many others). I use RSS Graffiti to make imports into Facebook a little tidier]
- Three big interests of mine are missing a related social service are gaming, photography and movies. Can anyone recommend any social networks for these interests?
- Any suggestions on what to add to my Amplify sidebar (see post here)? I see a few people have added a few interesting widgets via the Text feature, what about you? [EDIT: Ignore Amplify, what about my WordPress sidebar?]
- Is Gravatar a viable option for my home page? My concern like with Flickr and Cooliris, is that it’s not under my domain name and does have Gravatar plastered everywhere (as you would expect). But it also does pretty much what I want from my home page. What are your thoughts?
- Do I need a separate photography blog? I definitely want a separate photography site for showcasing my photos but should the photography-related blog be separate to my main blog? Currently it’s set-up to be so but issues arise with Amplify as the auto-posting could do with more customisation for the various post types and our various Amps (groups or Amplify blogs).
- Any recommendations for sharing playlists that include, at the very least, playable previews of the tunes (note I listen to my music on iTunes and it all gets scrobbled to Last.fm)?
- Any recommendations on how to share my movie reviews from my movie rentals from Lovefilm?
- Should I blog other people’s articles on my own blog? I have done in the past. I’m more concerning about the photography blog and my main blog going forward as it might look confusing.
PART 9: CRIB SHEETS
Nearly finished just this and one more part. Here’s a quick bullet point list of things I’ve done and nee to do…
Done
- Close down the E-lusion and Squashy/Squashed Frog names
- Mass tidy-up of Tumblr, Blogger and Posterous blogs and their posts, which included a re-org of my Posterous blogs
- Facebook Pages tidy-up, which included the new photography FB Page
- Re-org of domains + redirects all switched to .koltregaskes.com names and external sources, which included redirecting blog to Amplify
- Set up sub-domains and email addresses
- Sorted Google Analytics, bit.ly and various other admin tasks
- Produced and uploaded a new bio to all main social services + a general social services tidy-up and creation of a priority list
- Tidy up of my online galleries including Picasa, some Flickr and deviantART (though the latter needs redoing and Flickr needs a few photo re-edits)
- Small things like organise my Chrome bookmarks, import them into Google Bookmarks, share my sites to a list, upload important files to Google Docs, add and organise my notes to Google Notebook and basically move into the cloud
To Do
- A Google Reader re-org to cut down the reading (and thus sharing) so to gain more time for everything else.
- Google Bookmarks import once Google Chrome’s bookmarks are tidy + share my sites [EDIT: you cannot import your Google Chrome bookmarks into Google Bookmarks, only via the likes of Delicious, very odd and very annoying]
- Select a background and colour scheme as a “theme” for all my sites
- Edit background to be tillable and upload to the various services
- Re-edit my main portfolio photos
- Re-post to Flickr and deviantART
- Add to RedBubble
- Write accompanying blog post and post out to the various photography blogs
- Research the best way to post photography on Facebook and add each photo to the photography Page
- Select new photos for my portfolio (for one my Cornfield pic must be a candidate)
- Regular one-off articles each month
The logo, text and graphics could come at any time. Once they do I’ll need to do the following:
- Upload avatar to all my main social services
- Create a “profile” page and redirect koltregaskes.com from Gravatar to the new page
Regular
- Weekly photo post: to start with these will be the re-edits as mentioned above
- Monthly movie review/DVDs to watch post
- Monthly new music and new band post
- Monthly gaming post
Under review and long term
- Is the webspace needed?
- Create pages on Amplify (currently not visible) [EDIT: not using Amplify any more]
- Self-hosted gallery
- Self-hosted slideshow
- Photography, gaming and movie social networking site research
- Review the need of (and auto-posting to) Blogger, Posterous, Tumblr, WordPress
- Review need for a separate photography blog
- Review the need for a self-hosted WordPress.org blog
PART 10: UPDATES & CONCLUSION
OK, finally at the last part (for now)…
Updates
What I’ve learnt:
- Before I even started posting these I found how frustrating it was to copy and paste from one service or app to another. You can see me testing this here, here, here and here and couldn’t find a satisfactory way to write in Google Notebook or Google Docs then transfer it to Amplify (particularly without previewing the post). Bugs like this drive me mad!
- So I had to create a test Amplify blog to test out posting before posting to the public version – these are the kind of issues that put me off blogging in the first place!
- I was surprised to find no Preview post option in Posterous
- I found it frustrating that there was no save to draft in Amplify
Conclusions
There you have it. I’ll keep the conclusion short and short.
